A little care goes a long way in getting the most out of your reed diffuser. From choosing the right fragrance to adjusting its intensity, here are some helpful tips to make your Scent By LittleBox experience even better.
Choosing Your Fragrance
Every fragrance has its own character. Some are more noticeable and expressive, while others are softer and more subtle.
When choosing a fragrance, consider the atmosphere you wish to create and the space where you intend to place your diffuser.
There is no one-size-fits-all choice. The best fragrance is ultimately the one you enjoy having around.
Understanding Fragrance Categories
Every fragrance has its own character and diffusion behaviour. At Scent By LittleBox, our fragrances are categorised into two groups to help you find an experience suited to your preferences and space.
Room-Filling
Designed to disperse fragrance across a larger area, these diffusers create a more noticeable scent presence throughout the room.
Close Proximity
Specially designed for a more intimate, nearby scent experience. The fragrance is contained within a small radius and does not spread through the room.
These fragrances are best enjoyed within close proximity of the diffuser, making them suitable for smaller, more personal spaces.
Which should I choose?
If you prefer a fragrance that can be experienced throughout a room, explore our Room-Filling collection.
If you prefer a more subtle, localised scent experience, Close Proximity may be more suitable.
What does Delicate, Light, Moderate or Strong scent intensity mean?
These four terms describe the perceived intensity of a fragrance, from very subtle to very pronounced.
|
Category |
Meaning |
|---|---|
|
Delicate |
Very soft and understated. A gentle fragrance presence that is noticeable mainly when nearby. |
|
Light |
Soft and subtle, offering a gentle scent presence without being too noticeable. |
|
Moderate |
A balanced fragrance presence that is noticeable within its surroundings without being overpowering. |
|
Strong |
A more pronounced and noticeable fragrance presence that makes a stronger impression. |
Where should I place my reed diffuser?
For the best fragrance experience, place your reed diffuser in an area with gentle air circulation, allowing the fragrance to disperse naturally throughout the surroundings.
A console table, side table, shelf or countertop can be suitable locations, depending on the size and layout of your space.
Avoid placing your diffuser:
-
Directly under or beside air-conditioning vents.
-
Near open windows or areas with strong drafts.
-
In direct sunlight or near heat sources.
-
On unstable or easily knocked-over surfaces.
Strong airflow and heat can cause the diffuser solution to evaporate more quickly, reducing its overall lifespan.
Always place your diffuser on a stable, level surface, away from children and pets.
How long does it take before I can start smelling the fragrance?
Once your reed sticks have absorbed the diffuser solution, fragrance will gradually begin to disperse into the surroundings.
You may start noticing the scent within a few hours, although it can take up to 48 hours for the fragrance to develop and become more noticeable throughout the space.
The time taken can vary depending on the fragrance, room size, ventilation and surrounding conditions.
Allow some time for the fragrance to settle and develop in its new surroundings before making adjustments to the number of reed sticks.
How can I adjust the fragrance intensity?
The fragrance intensity can be adjusted by changing the number of reed sticks used in your diffuser.
Using more reed sticks generally allows more fragrance to disperse into the surroundings, creating a stronger scent presence. Using fewer sticks provides a more subtle experience.
We recommend starting with the suggested number of reed sticks indicated on your product page. You can gradually increase or reduce the quantity according to your preference and the space in which the diffuser is placed.
Please note: Using more reed sticks will generally increase fragrance consumption, causing the diffuser solution to deplete faster and reducing its overall lifespan.
Keep in mind that each fragrance has its own diffusion characteristics, so the results may vary between fragrances.
Why does a fragrance sometimes seem weaker or different after a while?
A fragrance can evolve over time, and what you smell when first using your diffuser may differ from what you experience later.
1. The Fragrance Evolves Over Time
Fragrances are composed of different aromatic components, commonly described as top, middle and base notes. These components have different evaporation characteristics and become noticeable in different ways.
-
Top Notes: The lighter, more volatile notes that are often noticed first. They create the initial impression of a fragrance.
-
Middle Notes: Also known as heart notes, these form the main character of the fragrance and become more prominent as the initial notes fade.
-
Base Notes: The deeper, longer-lasting notes that provide depth and lasting character to the fragrance.
As the diffuser continues to release fragrance, the balance between these notes may shift, allowing different aspects of the fragrance to become more noticeable.
2. Olfactory Adaptation
Our sense of smell naturally adapts to familiar scents. After being exposed to the same fragrance for an extended period, you may become less aware of it, even though the diffuser is still releasing fragrance. Someone entering the room may notice the scent more readily than someone who has been there for a while.
3. Changes in the Surrounding Environment
Air circulation, room temperature, ventilation and the placement of your diffuser can all influence how fragrance disperses throughout a space.
4. Fragrance Depletion
As the diffuser solution gradually depletes, the fragrance experience may also change. This is a normal part of using a reed diffuser.
If you feel the fragrance has become less noticeable, try stepping away from the room for a while before returning. You may find that you experience the fragrance differently with a refreshed sense of smell.
5. Refreshing Your Reed Sticks
Over time, the exposed ends of the reed sticks may become less effective at dispersing fragrance. Gently flipping the reed sticks can help refresh the scent and restore fragrance diffusion.
We recommend flipping the reeds approximately once every 10–15 days, or as needed.
To do so, carefully remove the reeds, turn them upside down and place the previously exposed ends back into the diffuser solution.
Why does my diffuser perform differently in different rooms?
The same diffuser may produce different fragrance experiences depending on the room in which it is placed. This is perfectly normal, as several environmental factors can influence how fragrance disperses.
1. Room Size
Larger rooms generally require more fragrance to achieve the same level of scent presence as smaller spaces. In a more spacious or open-plan area, the fragrance may feel less noticeable.
2. Air Circulation and Ventilation
Air-conditioning, ceiling fans, open windows and ventilation can influence how fragrance travels throughout a room. Gentle air movement helps distribute fragrance, while strong airflow may cause the diffuser solution to evaporate more quickly.
Handling Your Reed Diffuser
Our reed diffusers are formulated using fragrance oils to deliver an authentic and lasting fragrance experience. Unlike diluted water-based fragrance solutions, fragrance oils can leave stains or marks when they come into contact with certain surfaces.
A little care when handling your diffuser will help protect both your surroundings and your furniture.
Keep Reed Sticks Away from Furniture and Walls
Once removed from the diffuser bottle, reed sticks will carry fragrance solution along their length. Avoid allowing the reeds to lean against or come into contact with walls, furniture, curtains or other household surfaces, as the fragrance solution may leave permanent stains or marks.
Always ensure that the reed sticks remain clear of surrounding surfaces, even when they are inside the bottle.
What Should I Do If Diffuser Solution Spills?
If diffuser solution is accidentally spilled:
-
Blot the affected area immediately with an absorbent paper towel. Avoid rubbing, as this may spread the solution.
-
Keep the affected area well ventilated.
-
Avoid using water or household cleaning products without first checking whether they are suitable for the affected surface.
-
For delicate materials, wooden furniture or painted surfaces, consult the manufacturer's cleaning instructions.
How Should I Handle the Reed Sticks?
When flipping or handling your reed sticks, take care to avoid dripping diffuser solution onto surrounding surfaces.
We recommend handling the reeds over the bottle opening or a suitable protective surface. Wash your hands thoroughly after handling the reeds.
A Note on Safety
Reed diffuser solutions contain fragrance ingredients that require careful handling. Avoid direct contact with skin, eyes and household surfaces.
For important safety precautions, including instructions on accidental exposure, ventilation and proper handling, please refer to the safety card included in your Scent By LittleBox packaging.
Please read the safety card before using your diffuser and keep it for future reference.
